The Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR) approach builds people’s capacities to prevent, cope with,recover from and mitigate impacts of disaster hazards of communities at risk. This is achieved by enhancing community readiness andindividual survivability. Building resilient communities implies establishing and strengthening basic foundations of safety and security through enhancement of community managed disaster risk reduction measures.
This International Training Course on Building Resilient Communities: Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction is jointly designed and organized by International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR), The Philippines) and Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN) with special focus on South Asia, South East Asia and African countries' participants.
RRN has been facilitating socio-economic transformation of the poor and disadvantaged rural communities for more than two decades based on the four-fold approach of rural reconstruction - Education, Health, Livelihood and Self-government. It is engaged in implementing integrated community development programmes at grassroots level and policy advocacy, lobbying and networking at national, regional and international levels for the cause of protecting and promoting human rights and social justice for sustainable peace.
