Vacancy at CARE Nepal


CARE Nepal is an international humanitarian organization working in Nepal for the past 35 years. It currently works in 45 districts through its 12 projects issues related to improving the lives of the poor, vulnerable and socially excluded populations.

CARE Nepal hereby invites applications from competent and qualified candidates for the following positions for a 6 year project on Food Security (the Right to Food) starting from July 1,2013.

1. Project Manager (1); Grade 4 (b)

Key responsibilities: The Project Manager will be responsible for managing the overall project and supervise a team of CARE staff with responsibilities in managing project planning, monitoring, evaluation, partner capacity building and advocacy. S/he will have the overall responsibility for providing strategic support and guidance to a team of CARE and partner staff in the areas of civil society mobilization, evidence-based advocacy, organizational strengthening, learning, and fostering linkages at the local, national and international level on the Right to Food issue through regular oversight and facilitation. Qualifications: Master’s degree with five years relevant experience preferably in the field of food security (food rights), agriculture and natural resource management. Competencies: Ability to plan, implement, monitor and complete projects effectively; Strong analytical, coordination and communication skills; Ability to inspire, motivate, influence and coach staff and other people for independent action; Ability to manage resources effectively and efficiently and have good decision making capacity; Ability to engage confidently and accurately in English. The position will be based in the Kathmandu with frequent field visits.

2. Evidence Based Advocacy Specialist (1); Grade 4 (a)

Key responsibilities: The Evidence Based Advocacy Specialist will be responsible for supporting a civil society network and a number of strategic civil society partners in planning, implementing and monitoring effective advocacy related to the Right to Adequate Food. S/he will ensure synergy and linkages between project partners on advocacy related to the Right to Food to maximize impact, and ensure that monitoring systems are aligned with advocacy priorities to build evidence. Qualifications: Master’s Degree in relevant subject with at least three years experience in civil society mobilization, rights based programming and advocacy capacity building. Competencies: Strong analytical skills and ability to analyse complex situations and identify critical connections; Ability to strategically provide new information or data to key decision-makers and get their support; Ability to anticipate situations and think ahead about next steps; Ability to coordinate the creation of communications and deliver information, ideas and opinions to a wide range of audiences; Ability to engage confidently and accurately in English. This position will be based in Kathmandu with frequent field visits.

3. Gender and Partner Capacity Building Specialist: (1); Grade 4 (a)

Key responsibilities: The Gender and Partner Capacity Building Specialist will have the overall responsibility for supporting and coordinating partners’ capacity enhancement. At Key area of focus will be organizational governance (internal systems, policies and function). S/he will support partners in developing strategies for leadership development at all levels of their organizations. S/he will develop/apply a standardized method for capacity assessment and facilitate regular capacity assessments of partners s/he will be responsible for developing capacity building plans and coordinating the necessary support and training. Qualifications: Master’s degree in relevant subject with at least three years working experience with civil society organisations and gender policy implementation. Competencies: Strong analytical and coordination skills; Ability to communicate ideas and information effectively to ensure the message are understood and have desired impact; Ability to work in a team and learn from others; Ability to coach others with patience; Ability to engage confidently and accurately in English. The position is based in Kathmandu with frequent field visits.

4. Monitoring and Learning Capacity Specialist: (1); Grade 4 (a)

Key responsibilities: Monitoring and Learning Capacity Specialist will be responsible for setting up monitoring systems (in CARE and partner organizations). S/he supports partners in documenting evidence of project impact through regular and systematic monitoring and outcome assessment. S/he will have the overall responsibility for providing strategic support, guidance and capacity building in monitoring and knowledge management of partner civil society organizations. S/he is also responsible for planning and managing evaluations and studies) of the project in coordination with the project manager and the program coordinator. Qualifications: Master’s degree in relevant subject with at least three years experience in monitoring, evaluation methods and tools, and capacity building. Competencies: Ability to communicate ideas and information effectively to ensure that messages are understood and have the desired impact; Strong analytical skills and ability to identify gaps and connections in monitoring; Think creatively to encourage learning and demonstrate an adaptive style in sharing ideas and learning with others. Demonstrate ability to identify key learning points from experience and interaction with others to engage confidently and accurately in English. The position will be based in Kathmandu with frequent field visits.
