With the financial support from the European Union through the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR), the UNESCO Office in Kathmandu is implementing the project "Empowering people to enjoy their right to information for greater accountability of Nepal's power holders" (EIDHR/2012/292-704) in close cooperation with the Government of Nepal and the Citizen's Campaign for Right to Information (CCRI) and the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ).
In order to coordinate the implementation of the project, the UNESCO Office in Kathmandu seeks applications from qualified Nepali candidates for the following position:
Position Title : Project Manager
Condition of Employment: Full-time based in UNESCO Kathmandu Office, with frequent field visits Type of Contract : SSA (initial duration 11 months)
Salary scale : SB 3, Band B, Step 1
Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent shall coordinate the implementation of the project"Empowering People to Enjoy Their Right to Information for greater accountability of Nepal’s Power holders" (EuropeAid EIDHR/2012/292-704), under the overall authority of the Head of the UNESCO Office in Kathmandu and UNESCO Representative to Nepal, and in close cooperation with the Communication and Information (Cl) unit of the Office.
In particular, s/he shall:
1. Assist in the detailed planning of project activities;
2. Ensure day-to-day implementation of project activities;
3. Uaise with project stakeholders;
4. Ensure reporting and evaluation;
5. Organize the project documentation;
6. Contribute to the outreach of the project.
Minimum qualifications required:
Candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications:
1. Level and field of study of university or equivalent education and training:
a) Master's degree in a relevant discipline, preferably in communication or information management.
2. Number of years and type of practical experience required
a) 3-5 years of experience working in the area of communication, media development and or human rights, preferably with a UN agency, INGO or a Nepali Government entity;
b) 2 years of experience in project planning and management;
c) Good understanding of international development cooperation, particularly in the area of human rights and media development.
3. Competencies (required knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes and behaviors)
a) Excellent knowledge of the media and human rights situation in Nepal;
b) Good knowledge of issues related to the right to information;
c) Good knowledge on UNESCO's action in communication and Information;
d) Excellent project planning, management and evaluation skills;
e) Good written and oral communication skills;
f) Good ability to work in an international and multicultural environment;
g) Strong team orientation;
h) Good skills in the use of office and Internet applications;
4. Languages
a) Excellent Nepali and English (Understanding, reading, speaking and drafting)
