The Institute for Social and Environmental Research-Nepal (ISER-N) is a premier research and development institute committed to turning knowledge into practice to improve human lives and environmental conditions. It seeks competent, committed, result oriented, dynamic and hard-working candidates for the following positions for the NIEHS-funded epidemiology study entitled “Investigation of indoor solid fuel and kerosene use as tuberculosis risk factors" to be based in Pokhara. These positions are initially for 1 year with a possibility of extension for the project period.
Job Title: Interviewer/Phlebotomist Position: 3 (Three)
Key Responsibilities:
• Schedule and administer interviews, and conduct data collection following research procedures. The procedures will include measurement of home dimensions, take photographs of homes and cooking, heating and lighting devices and conduct measurements of ventilation rates within homes.
• Collection of blood samples for diabetes testing and latent TB testing.
• Transport blood samples from control participants to the study lab.
• Obtain and transport sputum samples to the lab.
• Administer questionnaires with a laptop computer to study participants and regularly upload data to the dedicated study server.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in public health with health assistant background, or equivalent in appropriate field, or Health assistant, staff nurse, lab technician degree with two years of similar working experience in the study field or Tuberculosis field.
• Capable of conducting survey interviews.
• Phlebotomy training and experience required for some positions.
• Computer skills (including Word, Excel, Access, SKY PE, internet).
• Competent in spoken and written English.
Job Title: Air Pollution Technician Position: 3 (Three)
Key Responsibilities:
• Programming and preparation of air pollution sampling instruments for deployment, according to study protocols.
• Arrangement for repair/replacement of instruments.
• Administer air pollution monitoring-related questionnaires and fill out instrument field deployment forms.
• Perform initial data screening procedures.
• Schedule and administer household air pollution monitoring and conduct data collection.
• Administer questionnaires with a laptop computer and regular upload of study data to the study server. Requirements:
• Either a Bachelor in Environmental Science or Diploma in engineering with two years of relevant working experience, or Master in Environmental Science.
• Knowledge and experience of conducting interviews and measuring indoor air pollution
• Computer skills (including Word, Excel, Access, SKYPE, internet).
• Competent in spoken and written English.
