Position Title: National Research Consultant -1 position

General functions:
Under the direct supervision of the Migration Health Physician in Kathmandu and overall guidance of the Chief Migration Health Officer in Bangladesh and in coordination with the Migration Health Division, Regional Office. Bangkok and Head Quarters Geneva, the successful candidate will be assigned to inter alia, the following tasks:
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Participate in the project"Strengthening government's capacity of selected South Asian Countries to address the Health of Migrants through a multi sector approach" to enhance the technical capacity of the public health sector in addressing migration related health challenges through research, policy development and participation in national and regional meetings.
2. Review related literature (Desk Review)
The National Research Consultant will conduct a desk review on the health vulnerabilities of inbound and outbound migrants in Nepal.
3. The National Research Consultant will write up a report from the desk review. The outline of the report will be provided by the Regional Research Consultant in coordination with I0M.
4. Develop the research protocol and data collection tools by using results from the desk review as a basis.
5. Study design and data collection
The study is expected to collect relevant information through, amongst others, in-depth interviews with key informants; focus group discussions (FGDs) among migrants and case studies. The combination of methodologies should be appropriate to the dynamics of migration and mobility of the targeted population in this study.
6. Analysis and writing of national research report
The National Research Consultant is responsible for collecting data in the country and ensuring the quality and reliability of data collected; as well as assisting the Regional Research Consultant in the writing of the research report. The Regional Research Consultant will do the final edit of the report. Therefore the National Research Consultant will be responsible for the following activities:
• Participation in National workshop and finalization of research report
• The National Research Consultant will present the research findings at the national workshop that is organized by I0M. After the workshop, the Research Consultant will appropriately address the comments and inputs provided by I0M and other stakeholders in the final report.
7. Undertake duty travel relating to project/programme activities, as required.
Desired Qualifications and Competencies:
• Master's degree in public health, social sciences, demography, development planning, statistics or equivalent; excellent communication skills in native language and English. Writing skill in English is a must.
• At least 3 years' relevant experience conducting independent health research (especially the qualitative research) ideally within the migration context of the country;
• Proven expertise in data analysis and writing of research reports;
• Experience of working with governments and/or migrants and communities;
• Excellent time management and ability to produce outputs as per agreed deadlines.
