Chemonics International, an international development consulting company based in Washington, O.C., seeks qualified local candidates for multiple positions in the anticipated United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Nepal Reading Project.The project will aim to improve reading skills in children in grades 1-3. The project will have a carefully targeted phase-in plan that will reach all Nepali primary schools by the end of the project.The positions are both long-term and short-term and will involve the following technical areas:
• Teacher training
• Early grade reading and literacy
• Reading diagnostics
• Mother tongue instruction
• Reading advocacy
• Reading material development
• Curriculum development
• Community engagement and mobilization
• Monitoring and evaluation
• Other education-related areas, including gender, information technology, and private-public partnerships.
Qualifications:
• Minimum five years of professional experience in education reform and primary education sector work with local government (preferably in literacy) required. Experience working with USAID or other international donors is a plus;
• Bachelor degree in education or in a sector directly related to project required;
• Experience working on reading assessment, instruction, and training for primary school teachers, conducting assessment of curriculum and currently available materials to teach early grade reading in Nepal, including supplementary reading materials;
• Demonstrated success in interacting, coordinating, and partnering with government institutions at all levels;
• Strong interpersonal, writing, and oral communication and presentation skills;
• Competency in English and Nepali required, other regional languages preferred.
